George Dussault is a multi-instrumentalist, music educator, producer, engineer, arranger and composer. Over the last 30 years his work in each of these fields has been featured on countless releases and in hundreds of live performances. As a music educator, he teaches guitar, bass and music theory to over thirty students weekly. As far as he remembers, George has always had a passion for music. He began collecting records and tinkering with tape-recorders as a young child, fascinated with the recording process. He began playing guitar at age four and for the next 17 years was trained formally by the great Leo Desautel. During that time he also taught himself bass, mandolin, banjo, piano and drums. George began performing publicly at age 10, winning several awards for his guitar playing. At 13 he had his first recording studio experience. At 16 he took on his first students. At 17 he was the lead guitarist in a band of 30-somethings. He played his first tour at age 18, and released his first album at 21. By the time he was in high school George had amassed a huge collection of recording equipment and instruments and he set up a small studio in his home where he began recording his own projects and other local bands. This in the days before everyone owned a computer with a "studio" inside. His reputation grew and soon he was recording and gigging by night and going to school by day. After graduating high school in 1989 George concentrated on his musical efforts exclusively, recording area bands performing with groups such as The Chosen Few, Strider and others. His studio, started as a hobby, gradually became a full time business. By 1996 his name had already appeared on several hundred releases as an engineer, producer and musician, including many releases on major labels. Realizing his full-time future lay in the music industry, in 1998 George attended the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, OH. He graduated in the top ten percent of his class, earning the personal recommendation of dean Jim Rosebrook. He returned to Rhode Island, married his incredibly forbearing wife Michaele. Since then his already long list of accomplishments has more than tripled. Today it's not unusual to find George leading a band class in an arts program, producing and playing on five sessions and teaching two dozen students privately in the same week. From 2008-2012 George was Director of Senior Music for the South-Eastern Massachusetts Arts Collaborative (SMARTS). From 2005 until 2020 George was a performing, producing and composing member of The Rhythm Room, an educational program performing concerts and giving enrichment programs throughout the Northeast. From 2014 until 2020, he was song-writer, co-musical director and guitarist for Divas With A Twist, a nine-piece band who performed sell-out concerts around Massachusetts. He has also performed on stage with former Prince vocalist and Vanity 6 / Appolonia 6 member Brenda Bennett, Kim Trusty, Spiney Norman, Tammy LaForest, Viking Jesus, The Empire Revue, The New Joe Parillo Ensemble and countless other artists. George is also an experienced string and horn arranger, writing and conducting ensembles for the recording projects of JC McCord, The Dust Ruffles, Tammy LaForest, Sunshine Riot and Kim Trusty in addition to several stage productions. George's work as a composer, producer, engineer, arranger and musician on projects by Brenda Bennett, The Rhythm Room, Dino Club, How's About Charlie, The Bohemian Quartet and The Schemers have appeared in several categories on the Grammy ballot. To quote George himself, "When I'm hired on to help produce a project, I see myself as part of the team. I don't believe in imposing my 'vision' on the artist, but I also don't believe in holding anything back from them. We all bring all of our ideas and abilities to the table, we leave our egos at the door and we bring the best out of each other." |
